Since 1881, AAUW has been one of the nation’s leading voices promoting education and equity for women and girls. AAUW has a nationwide network of members, donors, and advocates across the United States, as well as 700 local branches and more than 450 college and university partners. Since AAUW’s founding over 140 years ago, we have examined and taken positions on the fundamental issues of the day — educational, social, economic, and political. The AAUW office is located near the McPherson Square Metro station in Washington, D.C.

Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance
Regular full-time employees who work at least 30 hours/week and their legal spouses, domestic partners, and dependent children are all eligible for our medical, dental and vision coverage. Our medical insurance, provided through DC HealthLink, allows employees to choose from multiple plans and carriers. AAUW’s Reference Plan is with the CareFirst network.
AAUW’s dental plan is through CareFirst. AAUW covers the cost of dental insurance at 100% for employee only coverage. Regular full-time employees have the option to add dependents to their dental plan and are responsible for the cost.
AAUW also offers voluntary vision coverage for regular full-time employees and dependents.
401(k) and 401(a) Retirement Benefits
All full-time and part-time regular employees are eligible for a 401(k)-retirement plan. Employees are immediately eligible to make voluntary contributions to the plan up to the IRS maximum. AAUW matches up to 4% of an employee’s compensation. These contributions are vested immediately.
After one year of service, AAUW automatically contributes an additional 6% of a regular employee’s salary to a 401(a)-retirement plan, for a total of 10% that AAUW contributes to an employee’s retirement after 1 year of service.
Leave
AAUW provides time off starting with an accrual amount of annual leave up to 14 days and sick leave accrual up to 13 days in the first year for full-time employees. AAUW also offers paid family leave.
Holidays
AAUW recognizes the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, President’s Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Indigenous’ People’s Day, Thanksgiving, Friday after Thanksgiving, Christmas and Inauguration Day after a U.S. presidential election. We also provide two “floating holidays” which employees can take at any point during the year.
Teleworking/Hybrid Schedule
Most AAUW employees are eligible for hybrid schedules, depending on the nature of the position. Employees may work from a remote location for 3 days out of the week. Employees are expected to come into AAUW’s office in downtown DC the remaining 2 days.
Stipends/Reimbursements
Transportation: AAUW provides regular employees with a stipend of $100 each month for eligible transportation expenses. This stipend can be used for Metro or parking or rideshare reimbursements.
Cell/Internet: AAUW provides regular employees with an $80/month reimbursement for cell phone and internet costs.
Remote Expense Reimbursement: AAUW reimburses regular full-time employees up to $400 per fiscal year for reasonable costs of purchasing and maintaining any tools required by AAUW to perform job duties when working from home.
Wellness Reimbursement: AAUW reimburses regular full-time employees up to $400 per fiscal year for any wellness related services or items. This benefit includes, but is not limited to, gym memberships, fitness equipment, race registrations, etc.
Professional Development
AAUW offers regular full-time employees opportunities for professional development assistance. Amounts may vary based on annual budget.
Educational Assistance
AAUW reimburses regular full-time employees up to $3,000 per fiscal year for job-related courses, including certificate programs.
Additional Benefits
Additional benefits include AAUW paid life, accidental death and dismemberment, short-term and long-term disability insurance for all regular full-time employees.
Regular full-time employees have the option to purchase additional voluntary life insurance.
Regular full-time employees have the option to take advantage of pre-tax healthcare and dependent care flexible spending accounts (FSA). Employees covered under a high deductible health plan also have the option to take advantage of a pre-tax health savings account (HSA).
Employees have access to AAUW’s on-site gym.
