In June 1963, women were making just 59 cents on the dollar to their male counterparts.

On June 10, 1963, President John F. Kennedy signed the Equal Pay Act. Rep. Julia Butler Hansen (D-WA), far right, who was also an AAUW member, attended the signing ceremony.

Now it's time to make the law live up to its name. Urge your senators to take the next critical step in the fight for pay equity by quickly passing the Paycheck Fairness Act (S. 182).
