The responsibilities of an elected Regional Director of AAUW include
- Work with and support the state leaders within their respective region.
- Identify and develop future Association, Foundation, and LAF leadership at all levels.
- Represent members’ interests.
- Represent and promote the Association, Foundation, and the Legal Advocacy Fund to the membership and the public.
- Select two Regional Directors to serve on the Association Board.
The tasks that accomplish these responsibilities include but are not limited to
- Work with Association Board and staff in a manner consistent with the direction established by the Association President and the Executive Director.
- Communicate the direction of the Association to the membership.
- Participate in the Leader on Loan program and meetings/consult with members.
- Seek out and encourage qualified members for appointive positions, particularly members from unrepresented groups.
- Participate in planning and carrying out training for incoming Regional Directors at the biennial convention.
- Encourage and participate in leadership training for state and branch leaders.
- Prepare a written annual report to the Association Board of Directors.
Specific responsibilities
- Represent the states in the region to the Regional Director Board members.
- Further Association policies and programs in the region.
Specific tasks
- Solicit names for leadership positions.
- Chair the regional caucus at the Association convention.
- Plan and administer regional conference(s) or activities in consultation with necessary Association leaders, state presidents, and others.
- Participate in state board meetings, workshops, conventions, conferences, etc. in the region.
- Serve as a consultant to state presidents, other state officers and members as needed, keeping them informed of Association activities and actions, and helping them with AAUW problems and questions.
- Maintain files of state reports, correspondence and activities.
- Consult with and assist states in their use of the Leader on Loan program.
- Communicate with members through state newsletters, e-mail, etc.
- Facilitate the election process of the regional representative to the Association Nominating Committee at each biennial convention.
Additional responsibilities of the two (2) Regional Directors selected to serve on the Association Board of Directors.
The directors of the regions shall appoint two representatives from among their number to serve on the Association Board of Directors for the biennium.
Specific responsibilities
- Work closely with the Regional Directors not serving on the Board to coordinate and facilitate regular communications to and from the Regional Directors and the Board.
These tasks include but are not limited to information about the following
- Directions the Association will take
- Financial status
- Public policy program and priorities
- Programs and issues
- Attend all board meetings and participate in Association events.
- Develop and approve policies that implement and define that direction.
- Monitor Association finances and insure sound fiscal management.
- Appoint members to the Association Committees.
The tasks that accomplish these responsibilities include
- Participate in the development of a long-range plan and in strategic planning.
- Develop strategies to communicate the direction of the Association to the membership.
- Approve the annual budget.
- Review the financial statements on a regular basis.
- Review and approve the public policy program and priorities.
- Recommend Bylaws changes and resolution proposals.
- Participate in the Leader on Loan program.
- Participate in planning the biennial convention.
- Participate in the meetings of the board working groups.
- Review and approve programs and proposals before the board.
- Participate in leadership training opportunities.
- Participate in the Delegate Body as a voting delegate.
- Participate in the written biennial report to the convention and submission of a written annual report to the Board encompassing the reports from all the regionals directors.
- Maintain confidentiality of executive session.
- Participate in the board evaluation process.
