General AAUW Educational Foundation Board Position Description

The responsibilities of a member of the AAUW Educational Foundation Board of Directors are

  • Determine, in consensus with other Board members, the direction the Foundation will take.
  • Participate in the development and approval of policies which implement and define that direction.
  • Participate actively in Foundation fundraising activities, including meaningful and significant personal contributions and in the identification and solicitation of other contributors.
  • Monitor Foundation finances and insure sound fiscal management.
  • Set the overall investment policies, goals, and objectives for the Fellowships Fund.
  • Oversee the administration of the Fellowships Fund in accordance with the Articles of Incorporation.
  • Identify and develop future leadership for the Foundation and Association at all levels.
  • Represent the interests of the Association members as the primary contributors to the Foundation.
  • Represent and promote the Foundation to the membership of the Association and to the general public.
  • Appoint four directors to the Board, three advisers of the Fellowships Fund, and at least one AAUW member to the Development, Finance, and Program committees.
  • Promote the Association's work.

The tasks that accomplish these responsibilities are

  • Participate in the development of a long range plan and in strategic planning;
  • Approve the annual budget.
  • Review the financial statements on a regular basis.
  • Participate in the Leader to Leaderprogram.
  • Participate in Foundation and Association meetings and conventions.
  • Seek out and encourage qualified members for elective and appointive positions, particularly members from underrepresented groups.
  • Participate in the Board and committee meetings.
  • Review proposals before the Board.
  • Participate in leadership training opportunities.
  • Approve amendments to the Bylaws.
