How Branches Can Recruit Students to Become an E-Student Affiliate

STEP 1:
Explain why it is important for students to be part of your AAUW community. Provide them with a copy of the student brochure that you received in your Starter Kit packet or incorporate the value of belonging in your own materials. They can join through their colleges/universities.

STEP 2:
Explain AAUW’s FREE E-student affiliate program. You can describe such benefits as

  • FREE e-student affiliation to undergraduate students who do not already have a bachelor's degree that attend our C/U partner institutions.
  • Access for e-student affiliates to the AAUW website, including our members' only online resources such as research, publications, advocacy, leadership training and project grant opportunities, scholarship and award notifications, and product discounts.
  • Barnes & Noble discounts (www.bn.com/aauw), which are especially beneficial to students purchasing textbooks and other reference materials.
  • Fifteen percent discount for C/U registration of four or more students to the National Conference for College Women Student Leaders.
  • One year FREE membership. Upon graduating, the AAUW e-student affiliate receives the gift of a free year of AAUW membership through our Give a Grad a Gift program. This gift is compliments of their AAUW C/U partner member at no cost to either the student or to the C/U.

STEP 3:
Encourage them to create a student affiliate satellite branch. Join or start a local AAUW student affiliate satellite group on your campus. Contact us at coll-univ@aauw.org for more information on how to start one. Check out your local AAUW branch using the branch locator. You can work with your local branches to coordinate events and projects on your campus and in your community.
